Back To Bangkok - Style and Highlights
In 2016, the Hubs and I took some time off from the boys and headed to Bangkok for a short getaway. We enjoyed it so much, we decided it should be an annual affair. Funnily this year while we were planning our 'couples' getaway, it morphed into a family holiday - with the boys, my parents and his parents in tow. The Hubs was going to play golf with his parents three of the four days we were there while the boys and I hung out with my parents.
We landed at around 8AM in the morning (Bangkok time) and by God's grace we were able to check into our rooms at Novotel Siam. We chose this hotel because of its convenient location - 5 minutes walk from the BTS, walking distance from Siam Paragon, Siam Discovery Centre, Siam Centre, Central World and surrounded by local eateries.
After unpacking and freshening up, we headed for lunch. We spent the afternoon at Central World; my parents did some shopping while I brought the boys to the indoor playground at Level 6 (FOC). It was a good sized playground and kept the boys entertained for 2 hours! (I recommend this playground for kids below the age of 7YO).
We re-fueled with donuts and ice-cream. The boys were too tired to walk (so were the adults), we flagged down a Tuk-Tuk to bring us back to the hotel (cost us THB150).
I dressed the boys in simple white polo tees and the Elly Store's yellow Bermudas (I love their selection of brightly coloured Bermudas!)
Our stay at Novotel Siam included their morning Continental Breakfast Buffet - the selection of food was good with many children-friendly options (cereal, eggs, pastries). It helped to dine in at the hotel for breakfasts as it gave us time to sleep in, get ready at a comfortable pace and fuel up before we started our day out.
Day two was spent at Bangkok Sea Life (Siam Paragon) and Madam Tussauds (Siam Discovery Centre) - this combination of tickets were offered at the Bangkok Sea Life counter. I recommend setting aside a full day to enjoy both exhibits with a break for late lunch in between. The boys and I loved Bangkok Sea Life, there were many impressive and interesting sea life on display.
I dressed the boys in matching Uniqlo tees and Bermudas. Their cotton tees are really comfortable and suitable for our warm, balmy weather.
We took the BTS from Siam to Phrom Phong (5 stops away) and visited The Emporium Mall. My parents took time off to shop and I brought the boys to IMAGINIA (payment is required for 3 hours of play). For children below 6YO, the presence of an adult is necessary to guide them through the play equipment. This indoor playground is big with many different play areas, involving slides, canopy nets, wooden building blocks and tools as well as a number of interactive digital displays.
After lunch, we returned to the hotel to rest and spent the evening at Asiatique The Riverfront in Bangkok. This riverfront development can be reached via BTS and ferry, it opens from 5PM till late. There are a number of eateries, a small carnival and boutiques selling mainly tourists souvenirs.
Our return flight was scheduled for 9PM which gave us time to explore Bangkok on the last day. The Hubs was not playing golf so he hung out with the boys at IMAGINIA and I was free to shop (FINALLY!).
It was fun bringing the boys to Bangkok together with our parents, but I told the Hubs in 2018 it will just be him and me. Hah!
