Sweet Start to September
This first week of September marked the end of Term 3 for the boys and a one week break from school. I took a few days of leave to spend time at home and with them. In the past (as a SAHM), two weeks prior I would have lined up activities and playdates for the school break. This time round, I found myself moving things around right to the last minute.
So what did we end up doing?
They spent three days at Sportball Camp with their cousin. Sportball offers multi-sport programs and the boys love their School Holiday Camps. No. 1 started attending since he was 4 years old and No. 2 started when he was 3 years old. The coaches there are fun, engaging and professional. My objective was for the boys to run around, sweat and have fun. And they did!
While they were at Camp (3 hours) I squeezed in some much needed decluttering around the house. I had fun too!
The boys are blessed with the best Grandparents - my Dad and Mom brought them (and their cousin) to the Science Centre. They spent half a day there, came home smiling with their love tanks over-flowing from time spent with their Gong Gong (Grandfather) and Po Po (Grandmother).
Since I started work, the boys have had less opportunity to enjoy playdates with their friends. I am thankful for friends and family who helped make them happen; even with my current, less flexible schedule.
No. 1 enjoys baking and I used to spend more time in the kitchen with the boys when I was not working. This holiday we baked some Granola Brownies. This was an easy brownie recipe No. 1 found behind his favourite granola box. They turned out pretty good.
With No. 1 in Primary School and I back at work, there have been fewer opportunities for me to do meaningful activities with the boys. Most of my time with them has been spent on revising school work, basic reading and writing. These last few days have really reminded me of how much I missed this - savouring time spent with them, no rushed agendas, just doing stuff together.
This was a good break for all of us, a timely reminder of how time spent at home can be so fulfilling and rewarding. It has been a sweet start to the month of September...
